Kontroler ini dirancang dengan teknologi prosesor Intel Atom dan diperuntukkan bagi aplikasi dengan kebutuhan performa paling tinggi. Sebagai bagian dari keluarga produk X20, X20CP1684 menjadi lini teratas dengan fitur unggulan seperti Ethernet gigabit, USB, POWERLINK V2, serta slot untuk CompactFlash yang dapat dilepas. POWERLINK onboard mendukung mode poll-response chaining untuk performa jaringan real-time yang optimal. Selain itu, tersedia 1 slot tambahan untuk modul antarmuka guna meningkatkan fleksibilitas sistem.
